For overseas travelers – guided by a player with over 20 years of experience
This article is written for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans visiting Japan from overseas, introducing card shops in Akihabara.
I play Yu-Gi-Oh! and regularly buy cards in Akihabara.
I’ve been coming here since I was 15, so that’s over 20 years.
I’ve also been using a Dark Magician deck since elementary school, so it’s a deck I know inside out.
Lately, I often see overseas travelers who don’t speak Japanese struggling in front of card shops:
• Not knowing which store to go to
• Too many shops to choose from
• Feeling unsure about communicating in Japanese
I want such visitors to experience the same deep Yu-Gi-Oh! experience that I enjoy.
That’s why I wrote this article.
Akihabara is the best place to buy Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in Tokyo
Having lived in Tokyo for over 15 years, I can confidently say that Akihabara is the best place to buy Yu-Gi-Oh! cards:
• There’s a huge number of shops
• A wide stock of single cards
• Shops are clearly divided into player-focused and collector-focused
Of course, people visit card shops for different reasons:
• To get cards that are only available in Japan
• To complete missing pieces for a deck
• To find early Yu-Gi-Oh! cards
• To duel at Japanese duel spaces
In this article, I’ll introduce my favorite shops based on these purposes.
Recommended visiting hours
Timing matters when visiting Akihabara card shops.
I personally recommend going around lunchtime:
• Many shops open at 10:00 on weekends
• Many shops open at 13:00 on weekdays
Some shops are still closed in the morning.
