Koenji Thrift Store Guide: Best Vintage Shops in Tokyo

Koenji Thrift Store Guide: Best Vintage Shops in Tokyo

Exploring Second-Hand Shops in Koenji

This article introduces some of the best thrift stores in Koenji.

I lived in Koenji for over 10 years.

I first visited as a university student, and that’s when I got completely drawn into the world of vintage clothing.

Where to Buy Vintage in Tokyo?

If you’re looking for thrift stores in Tokyo, these are the main areas to check out:

  • Shibuya & Harajuku
  • Shimokitazawa
  • Koenji

Each area has its own character.

Shibuya & Harajuku

The center of youth culture in Tokyo.

You’ll find trendy vintage pieces that reflect current fashion.

However, prices tend to be higher overall.

There are also many new clothing stores, so it’s a good area if you want options beyond just thrift shopping.

Shimokitazawa

Recently redeveloped, with a clean and modern feel around the station.

There are many stylish cafes and commercial spaces.

Like Shibuya, it’s known for its trendy vibe,

but prices are slightly more affordable.

Koenji

Koenji has a strong mix of art, rock culture, and retro Showa-era atmosphere.

Around places like Junjo Shopping Street, you’ll find many independent thrift stores and small shops tucked away in backstreets.

If I had to describe Koenji in one word, it would be “depth.”

Prices vary widely—often cheaper than Shimokitazawa—but true vintage pieces can be quite expensive.

This guide focuses on Koenji.
