By the afternoon, my stubble starts to bother me.
Especially on days when I have to meet someone.
It can be noticeable during in-person meetings, of course, but surprisingly, I also notice it during online interviews and meetings.
I see my face on the screen and think,
My stubble is starting to show.
I don’t know if the other person even notices.
But at the very least, I feel more comfortable going into a meeting looking clean and well-groomed.
That’s why I bought the Panasonic LAMDASH PALM IN ES-PV3A-K.
In this article, I’ll explain why I bought this tiny electric shaver and what I think after actually using it.
Why Does My Stubble Bother Me in the Afternoon?
I normally shave at night.
I use the MÜHLE R89 safety razor, which I previously reviewed on this blog.
Why do I shave at night instead of in the morning?
Simply because it’s more efficient for me.
After a shower, I don’t need to spend extra time warming or softening my skin and facial hair with hot water.
I can just apply shaving cream and shave.
For me, this works much better than trying to fit shaving into a busy morning.
But there is one downside to this routine.
By the following afternoon, my stubble starts to become noticeable.
Normally, it isn’t a big deal.
But on days when I have to meet people, it’s a little different.
There are in-person meetings and interviews.
And surprisingly, online meetings and interviews can make me even more conscious of it.
Because I can see my own face on the screen, once I notice my stubble, it starts bothering me.
If possible, I’d rather clean it up before going into a meeting.
So, How Do I Shave in the Afternoon?
The simplest solution would be to shave in the morning.
But I don’t really want to do that.
Mornings are busy.
I already have an efficient routine of shaving after my evening shower, so I don’t want to add another shaving routine to my morning.
So, should I take my MÜHLE R89 to the office?
That doesn’t seem very practical either.
I would need more than just the razor.
I’d also need shaving cream.
Warm up my skin, apply the cream, shave carefully…
It doesn’t really feel like something I want to do during my lunch break.
Then why not just carry an electric shaver?
Sure.
That would solve the shaving cream problem.
But regular electric shavers are pretty big.
When I compare the PALM IN with the Braun electric shaver I used to own, the difference in size is pretty obvious.
Of course, I could put a regular electric shaver in my bag every day and solve the problem.
But do I really want to carry this around every day?
And then walk into the office restroom with it during my lunch break?
It just feels a little excessive.
What I wanted was something much simpler.
No shaving cream.
Small enough that I wouldn’t notice it in my bag.
Something I could take out whenever I needed it and quickly clean up my stubble.
That’s when I found the LAMDASH PALM IN.
What Is the Panasonic LAMDASH PALM IN?
The LAMDASH PALM IN is a compact electric shaver from Panasonic.
The ES-PV3A-K that I use has a five-blade shaving system, yet the body measures only about 57 × 72 × 45 mm.
It weighs around 135 g.
Unlike a conventional electric shaver, it doesn’t have a long handle.
As the name suggests, it fits in the palm of your hand.
Despite its size, it uses a linear motor operating at approximately 14,000 strokes per minute.
It also charges via USB Type-C.
When I first saw it, I thought,
I could actually carry this around.
And it seemed almost perfect for what I was looking for.
About Two Minutes to Clean Up My Afternoon Stubble
What I like most after actually using it is how easy it is.
If my stubble starts bothering me before a meeting or interview, I take out the PALM IN and shave.
For me, it takes about two minutes.
That doesn’t mean I rush through it.
I find that it works better when I move it slowly and carefully over my skin.
If I rush and repeatedly go over the same area, I also start to worry about irritating my skin.
So I usually spend around two minutes shaving carefully.
Still, it’s only two minutes.
Compared with preparing shaving cream and doing another full shave, it’s much easier.
And being able to clean up my stubble before a meeting has been more useful than I expected.
Part of it is simply about looking well-groomed.
But perhaps more importantly, I don’t have to think about my stubble anymore.
I can go into a meeting feeling a little more confident without that small distraction in the back of my mind.
That’s probably the biggest reason I’m glad I bought the PALM IN.
The Portability Is Excellent
Another thing I really like about the PALM IN is its portability.
I basically keep it wherever I’m going to be that day.
If I’m going to the office, it goes in my bag.
If I’m working from home, it stays in a drawer.
Whenever I need it, I just take it out and use it.
At around 135 g, I barely notice it in my bag.
Another convenient feature is USB Type-C charging.
These days, so many of the devices I use already charge via USB Type-C.
That means I don’t need a dedicated charging setup just for the PALM IN.
It’s small enough to carry.
Light enough to leave in my bag.
And because it uses USB Type-C, charging it is easy almost anywhere.
For me, its portability isn’t simply about being convenient for travel.
It means I can keep it wherever I happen to be that day.
That fits the way I use it extremely well.
It’s Tiny, but It Shaves Like a Regular Electric Shaver
There was one thing about the PALM IN that genuinely surprised me.
The shaving experience.
I previously used a conventional Braun electric shaver with the typical long body.
Compared with that, the PALM IN is dramatically smaller.
Because it fits in the palm of my hand, I assumed that some of the shaving performance or experience would have to be sacrificed.
But in practice, I barely notice a difference.
Both the way it feels while shaving and the final result are very similar to the regular Braun electric shaver I used before.
That genuinely surprised me.
The body is significantly smaller.
Yet I can shave with it just like a regular electric shaver.
For me, that’s one of the biggest strengths of the PALM IN.
Visually, it also leaves my face looking quite clean.
For my purpose—cleaning up my appearance before a meeting or interview—I’m completely satisfied with the result.
However, when I touch my skin after shaving, I can still feel a little stubble.
It doesn’t give me the completely smooth feeling I get after a proper shave with my MÜHLE R89 safety razor.
But I had a similar experience with my Braun electric shaver.
So I don’t really see this as a weakness specific to the PALM IN.
For me, it’s more about the difference between an electric shaver and a safety razor.
The MÜHLE R89 is what I use when I want a proper, close shave.
The PALM IN is what I use when I want to quickly clean up the stubble that appears during the day.
For that role, I’m very satisfied with how the PALM IN shaves.
One Thing I Don’t Love: The Noise
If there’s one thing about the PALM IN that bothers me, it’s the noise.
Despite how small it is, it still sounds like a regular electric shaver when you turn it on.
At home, I don’t care at all.
But imagine using it in an office restroom during your lunch break.
If other people are around, you might feel a little self-conscious about the noise.
So while it’s compact enough to take almost anywhere, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll feel comfortable using it anywhere.
It’s a small point, but something worth knowing before buying one.
Conclusion: It Has a Specific Role—and That’s Why I Like It
After using the LAMDASH PALM IN for a while, its role in my routine has become very clear.
At night, after a shower, I use my MÜHLE R89 for a proper shave.
Then, the next day, if my stubble starts bothering me in the afternoon, I spend about two minutes cleaning it up with the PALM IN.
Buying the PALM IN meant I didn’t have to change my routine and start shaving in the morning.
I can continue shaving at night, which is the most efficient routine for me.
The PALM IN simply solves the one weakness of that routine: the following afternoon.
If I want the completely smooth feeling of a close shave, I still choose my MÜHLE R89.
But if I want to clean up some afternoon stubble before meeting someone or going into a meeting, the PALM IN is incredibly convenient.
Especially if I don’t want to carry a full-size electric shaver around every day.
It’s tiny, yet the shaving experience feels surprisingly similar to a regular electric shaver.
I can take it out when I need it and shave just enough to look clean again.
That’s exactly the role I wanted it to fill.
And for that, I’m very happy with it.
